Hi Ryan
I think that there is a huge opportunity to improve the way we train and develop people in sales. At present I am writing a course for small and medium sized business owners to improve their sales and marketing. I propose to make this available as an e course with exercises and follow up through e mail and skype. I will post progress as I go on this site. In the mean time it is refreshing to communicate with a like minded person
Regards

I am in process of developing a small consulting firm that will concentrate mainly on these logisitcs of the selling industry. I am a 15 year veteran in sales, with a diverse background in many industires and you are right on the mark. The inability to format your own entrance to the specific client can take away the genuine approach and kill the transaction. I think having this opportuntiy to be more genuine is actually more iportant than everything else. I would love some feedback from you on my idea to develop a firm that concentrates on these function of the selling process. My passion is how we relate as well as build with the potential client and this need is from my view dying.

thank you for your article,

regards,

Thanks for your comment. I totally agree with one proviso and that is that the training programs can produce the correct behaviour in an emergency. My experience is that most training safety training programs are ineffective. The results don't justify the cost because they are designed poorly. No one is going to change behaviour as the result of a one or two day training program.

I think safety-training classes are necessary in the workplace. Emergencies and disasters cannot always be prevented, but workers can always be trained to properly respond effectively.

You have successfully interlinked the concept of delegation to improved leadership, higher productivity, improved motivation and morale. I also liked the point where you mention that one must analyse an employee's skill and experience to whom the task is being delegated. In case the job is not completed as per your expectations, what problems could it create. Thanks for the excellent write-up!

Hi Dave
Thanks for your comment. Leadership is so misunderstood and we don't excel in our training methods. Sorry, that is a gross understatement. We use the wrong methods in industry and confuse knowledge and behaviour. I am about to send you a short explanation.
Kind regards
Peter

Interesting article. Sadly today improper or misdirected emphasis is placed on credentials more than anything. As children we are taught to listen to who is in charge and "suck it up" and not make waves when we come across a non leader in management. This causes, as you have stated, a rise in blood pressure, etc. How many mistakes were made by people who were not at 100% because all they could think about is how much they dislike their boss? Studies similar to the one you reference were conducted in the US also and of course come to the same conclusion. Luckily there are a few major hospitals here that are making leadership training a part of job credentials, with the hopeful effect of lowering error rates.
